TikTok Tips and Features

TikTok is a video-making and-sharing social media platform. Many videos are music-centric, with creators using the app’s extensive library of sound effects, song samples, and filters to create short movies of themselves dancing and lip-syncing. However, there are an inexhaustible amount of videos to be found, covering a wide range of themes.

While TikTok is a fun site you can spend hours on watching cool content, there are some features that many users still remain oblivious to, and we’d like to show you a few of the features we find really helpful.

Finding videos through sound

This is particularly helpful when you want to watch more videos with a specific audio clip.

  • Look for and view a video with sound.
  • On the right side of the video, tap the rotating record. Alternatively, you can tap the video’s scrolling sound link at the bottom.
  • You can add the sound to your favorites, share it, find the original use of the sound (if it’s still available/public), and find any video that utilizes that sound from the sound’s page that pops up. From here, you can even start shooting a video using that sound.
  • Alternatively, you can use the Discover screen to search for sounds.

Searching for videos based on effects

Do you want to watch more videos with a specific effect, such as green screen? Well one simple way to do this is to:

  • Look for a video with the effect and watch it.
  • The effect’s name can be tapped. Above the video creator’s handle, it appears with a wand.
  • You may add the effect to your favorites, share it, and find any video that utilizes it from the effect’s website that opens up. From here, you can even start shooting a video with that effect.

There has also been some welcome feature development that hopes to make TikTok safer for users. TikTok recently unveiled a new set of services aimed at assisting users who are dealing with mental health concerns like self-harm, and suicide. To begin with, the platform is increasing its well-being guides to better help those who wish to share their personal stories on the site. This is a laudable initiative, particularly as mental health awareness continues to grow.

The new recommendations, which are currently available in TikTok’s Safety Center, provide advice on how to effectively convey one’s experiences as well as how to interact properly with others who are struggling or distressed. In addition, TikTok is promoting a new set of curated material from its partner organizations in-app, which provides more information on crucial well-being issues up front. TikTok is also increasing its in-search prompts for eating disorder-related searches, which will assist users find expert support tools and services.

Finally, TikTok’s sensitive material warning labels have been updated. These opt-in viewing windows already show on top of videos that some viewers might find disturbing or frightening, and this type of content is also ineligible for inclusion in anyone’s For You feed.
